Supernatural - Complete Season 1-3

Supernatural - Complete Season 1-3

I love my TV shows, I'm a big fan of PRISON BREAK, 24, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, SMALLVILLE, MY NAME IS EARL, LOST.

I'm always on the lookout for a new show, and I downloaded all three seasons of Supernatural after reading good things on it on IMDB. What happened though was I watched the first three episodes and straight away I loved it. I searched it up on Amazon and I couldn't believe the price. £28 for all three seasons! So I ordered it straight away.

I was a little apprehensive though at first has I thought all three seasons were going to come in one big box, and I like my TV shows to have individual boxes for each season, so I was really happy when it arrived and the main case was a slip case with individual cases for each season. There very smart cases as well.

I've watched the opening 15 episodes and its a fantastic show, very different to all the other shows I watch. The two main characters are extremely likable. I don't normally like scary films or TV shows, but this is extremely addictive. Some episodes are very scary and some are just funny.

Overall this is a fantastic value box set.

Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2 Disc) [2007]

Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2 Disc) [2007]

My only problem is that you cant always understand what they're saying while they're singing so i had to figure the plot out by other means. loved it though, would give it 4 1/2 if i could

Dead Set [2008]

Dead Set [2008]

Dead Set is a well-polished zombie production (particularly considering the limitations of it being an E4 TV series rather than a film) that rises above the zombie norm thanks to writer Charlie Brooker's wickedly satirical swipe at reality TV culture. What makes this work so well is just how easily and neatly the concepts of zombie horror and reality TV are married together. There's the stock characters, the pleasure/horror of voyeurism, the sly commentary on the idiocy of the general public...

However, whilst the series shows a great deal of knowledge of its obvious forebears, this sometimes means it comes across as highly derivative, particularly of Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later. Still, such is the cost of wanting to pay knowing homage to your predecessors, it seems.

As for DVD extras, the series includes about a dozen featurettes of varying quality. Some are semi-interesting interviews but a few are just compilations of behind-the-scenes footage that don't really communicate much of any value.

I'd be tempted to give the overall package four out of five, but I'm docking an entire star for the annoying decision to not include the feature length edit of the series that was shown on TV on Halloween. It seems a bit of an oversight to not allow people watching the DVD the chance to view the series as a 2-hour film. A "play all" option is available, but this means you're treated to the credits every half hour instead of a seamless product. This really is an irritating oversight.

Cloverfield [2007]

Cloverfield [2007]

"Truly Terrifying" says the review from the News Of the World, as featured on the back of the DVD case. This is an accurate description of the film, for all the wrong reasons! This film I am afraid to say is terrifyingly bad.

Counting The Blair Witch Project amongst my favourite horror movies, I am not adverse to a bit of shaky camera action but this is way, way over the top. If you don't have a sore head to begin with, you certainly will by the time you have finished watching this film.

The plot is pretty thin as well, and the characters are so underdeveloped that you don't actually care who is killed and who survives. After 81 minutes of watching the film I was left with an overwhelming feeling of "Is that it?"

I am a big fan of J.J. Abrams, having loved Lost and Fringe but this film is definitely not the masterpiece that all the hype has made it out to be.

Saw 4 - Extreme Edition [2007]

Saw 4 - Extreme Edition [2007]

Saw IV starts off where the last one finished. More of the same really - nothing different to the other films. I was bored watching this film and I found the constant flashbacks a bit confusing.

The Orphanage [2007]

The Orphanage [2007]

This is a brilliant film, up there with his "Pan's Labyrinth" and even better than "Devil's Backbone" which it in some ways resembles - a ghost story involving a children's home. A film about the fierce love between parent and child, which transcends death. I loved the bittersweet ending. It is not a horror film, so if you like horror movies, choose something else.

Highly inventive super scary flick. A true gem and not to be missed by any
horror/thriller/scary films' fans!

Supernatural - The Complete Third Season

Supernatural - The Complete Third Season

although having 6 episodes shorter than the previous 2 seasons...it is more than made up in the sheer quality of the episodes.
season 1 and 2 basically got the whole how set up and we all got the j hist of what was going on, the pace was fast yet it had never got the sheer spectacular standard that Buffy the Vampire Slayer set for all the shows in this genre.
but Supernaturals' third outing is quite a remarkable one which can be extremely scary one moment and then utterly camp the next.
this season has made me a dedicated fan...yes the first 2 need to be seen first but here is where everything kicks off.
all 17 episodes are on top form.
also contains 3 of the greatest episodes ever-A Very Supernatural Christmas,Just In Bello ans First blood...all three stand out from the perfect crowd.
Ghost Facers also comes close which is shot in an entirely Blair Witch style...which only adds to the intensity of the episode.
this is perfect viewing and the finale is intense.
Bring on season 4...it can only get better.
:)

Pan's Labyrinth [2006]

Pan's Labyrinth [2006]

There is just one word to describe this movie, stunning. Hollywood just ca't make movies as good as this. I can't believe some people are giving it one star.

The Mist [2007]

The Mist [2007]

After hearing Mark Kermode's glowing review of 'The Mist' back in July, I decided to pre-order it as we share similar tastes. After what seemed like an eternity, it finally popped through my letterbox; and I have to say it was very much worth the wait. The endless nihilistic terror leaves you breathless; the plethora of imaginative and well done squirm-inducing monsters keep you on edge but aren't overdone; the social commentary is insightful, and its heart-wrenchingly bleak ending is a welcome departure from all the Hollywood cliches we usually get. Indeed, the studio offered to double the budget for the movie if Frank made it a "happier" ending (which just goes to show how lacking in imagination Hollywood execs are) but Frank refused. So my hat off to him for going against the tide and pushing for his vision of the ending; had they all drove off into the sunset and lived happily ever after I think I would have topped myself.

If you like your horror nihilistic and relentless; if you want a horror story that is smart, insightful and carefully crafted, then 'The Mist' is for you. Amongst the many pitiful Hollywood attempts at horror, poor adaptations, and endless sequels to excremental horror franchises, 'The Mist' is a real gem. It's in a league of its own. Movies such as this come along once in a blue moon.
